Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Marymount University men's lacrosse team fell in a heartbreaker on Saturday afternoon in a 12-11 decision against Southwestern University (Tex.).
The Saints tangled with teh Pirates amid snowy and icy conditions at Long Bridge Park, which limited the offense chances for both sides. The Pirates edged the Blue and White in shots, 48-39, but the Saints forced Southwestern into 24 turnovers throughout the tilt.
MU matched Southwestern goal for goal in the second, third, and fourth quarter, but the Pirates managed to hang onto their one-goal lead from the first quarter. Marymount knotted the contest seven times as the Saints battled back.
After the Pirates took a 5-4 lead at the end of teh first half, Charlie Wittich and Paul Vey buried back-to-back markers to knot the score at 6-6. Southwestern had the final say of the period, however, as the Pirates scored with 40 ticks on the clock to take a 9-8 lead to open the final quarter.
Marymount struck first in the fourth quarter, as Troy Tangolics found the back of the net 1:24 into the frame. Despite the early marker, Southwestern seized the momentum with three-straight goals to make it 12-9. The Saints answered with goals from Chris Bochilo and Gavin Taylorson, but they couldn't find the tying goal before time expired.
Clark Akers paced the Saints' offense with four goals which brought his career total to 122. The senior is six goals shy of claiming the Saints' all-time goals record. Troy Tangolics and Paul Vey added two goals apiece. Gavin Taylorson and Bochilo ended the tilt with identical scorelines of one goal and two assists. Charlie Wittich chipped in with one goal and one assist.
In goal, Brandon Hall played the full 60:00 and registered 16 saves. Hall also led the Saints with six ground balls.
The Blue and White hit the road for their next contest on Friday, March 18, when they take on Grove City College at 6:00 p.m.
