Mead Tosses First-Career Complete Game Shutout, Saints Defeat Lions

Box Score

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Marymount University baseball team rounded off its Spring Break trip in Florida with its second-straight victory, as sophomore Drew Mead tossed his first career complete game to help the Saints to a 2-0 decision over Mount St. Joseph on Thursday.

Mead allowed just five hits, while striking out five and not giving up a walk on his way to nine shutout innings for his first win of the season on the mound.

He had support on the offensive end, as the Saints had 11 hits in the game, but runs weren't scored off of hits. In the top of the second, senior Austin Sizemore put the first run on the board when he stole home.

In the sixth, senior Nick Smutko reached first on an error by the shortstop, taking a bases-loaded situation to score sophomore Casey Baker from third.

The Saints return by to Virginia to open up Atlantic East Conference play on Saturday, March 16, hosting Wesley College at Nationals Youth Academy for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
