Game 1: Wesley 15, Marymount 5
The Wolverines (10-20, 3-11 CAC) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first before the Saints responded with two runs in the second and two in the third to take a 4-2 lead. Freshman Jake Mellor doubled to left to scored junior Lukje Tyree and junior Ryan Scheufele drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game in the second.
Marymount took the lead with two runs in the third after junior Conner Hall scored on an error and Mellor reached on a fielder's choice that scored Tyree for the second-straight inning.
Neither team would score again until Wesley plated three in the fifth and three in the sixth to go ahead, 8-4.
The Saints pulled within three in the seventh when Darrow scored on a wild pitch, but that would be as close as they would get as Wesley scored seven in the bottom of the eighth, highlighted by a three-run homer, to provide the final margin.
Tyree went 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Darrow was 3-for-5 with a run scored. Mellor also had two RBIs.
Marymount used six pitchers in the game with senior Collin Bazemore suffering his fifth loss in seven decisions this season after allowing six hits and six runs over 2.0 innings.
For the Wolverines, Alex Marrs picked up his third win after scattering nine hits and allowed just three earned runs over 7.0 innings while striking out eight.
Game 2: Marymount 10, Wesley 8
The Saints scored eight of their 10 runs over the first three innings as they led 8-0 before Wesley scored two in the bottom of the third.
Hall led off the second game with a solo home run to right center on the first at-bat to give Marymount a lead that it would not relinquish. He added an RBI-single in the second before scoring on a two-run double by Darrow to put the Saints ahead, 5-0.
Junior Michael Wade had an RBI-double in the third before freshman Gavin Canipe hit a two-run homer to left to make it 8-0.
Wesley scored two in the third, one in the fifth and two in the seventh to pull within three, 8-5, but an RBI-ground out by Hall in the eighth scored senior Javier Herrera for what proved to be the game-winning run.
The Wolverines scored three more runs in the eighth to pull within one at 9-8, but an RBI-single by Mellor in the top of the ninth made it 10-8 before Scheufele retired three of the four batters he faced in the bottom of the ninth to earn the save.
Senior Dylan Gerdts picked up his team-leading third win of the season after allowing just three earned runs on nine hits over 6.0 innings and striking out four. Despite allowing five earned runs on seven hits and two home runs over the final 3.0 innings, Scheufele got his team-leading third save of the season.
Hall went 2-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs while Darrow was 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Wade and Herrera each totaled two hits and two runs while Wade added an RBI.
Marymount travels to cross-town rival Catholic on Tuesday for a nine-inning, nonconference contest beginning at 4 p.m.
