NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Marymount University (23-16) fell to No. 24 Christopher Newport University (24-13) in a close contest, 5-4, on Friday at Captains Park. The Saints rallied with four runs in the sixth inning, but Christopher Newport secured the win with a decisive run in the eighth.

Christopher Newport took an early lead in the fourth inning, as G. Croll singled up the middle to drive in two runs, giving the team a 2-0 advantage. Through four innings, the score stood at 2-0 in favor of Christopher Newport.
In the fifth inning, Christopher Newport extended its lead with a sacrifice fly by C. Slough and an RBI double by G. Croll, pushing the lead to 4-0. The score was 4-0 through five innings.
The Saints responded in the sixth inning.
Tyler Woodring began the rally with a walk and later scored on a balk.
Francis Swekosky and
Evan Schick both crossed the plate, with the latter scoring on a single by
Ryan Cuadros.
Gray Ellenburg's sacrifice fly brought home another run, tying the game at 4-4 through six innings.
Christopher Newport reclaimed the lead in the eighth inning. A. Hylton singled and eventually scored on a single by S. Benedict, putting Christopher Newport ahead 5-4.
The game concluded with Christopher Newport securing a 5-4 victory over the Saints.
