Men's lacrosse drops road tilt to No. 5 York

Box Score

YORK, Pa.— The Marymount (Va.) University men's lacrosse team dropped a Capital Athletic Conference tilt to No. 5 York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon, 17-6.

Both squads played tenacious defense, keeping one another off the scoreboard for the first four minutes of play. The Spartans finally added one to the scoreboard with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Marymount only allowed one other goal before heading into the second quarter trailing, 2-0.

In a man-up situation early in the second quarter, sophomore Josh McIvor found junior Nathan Beard to put one past York, and bring the Saints within one, 2-1. YC put two more past MU before the Saints answered again. At just under the 13-minute mark, Beard fed senior Kellen McCarthy for the Saints' second goal, 4-2. York found the back of the net seven more times before the half, pulling ahead, 11-2.

The defensive intensity picked up once again to open the third quarter, seeing both teams remain scoreless for the first nine minutes of play. Marymount broke the silence when junior John Williamson ripped one past the goalkeeper for an unassisted finish, 11-3. MU kept YC to just two goals in the third quarter, and the offense struck once more before the clock expired. Senior Shoshone Smith dished the ball to junior Brent Sulhoff for the finish inside, 13-4.

In the fourth quarter, York's offense proved to be too much for Marymount, finding the back of the net three more times to pull ahead, 16-4. Junior Dylan Watkins interrupted the run with an unassisted goal for the Saints, 16-5. The blue and whites defense kept York to just one more goal in regulation, before sophomore Matthew Ebert put away the last goal of the game.

Sophomore Grey Clarkson started in the cage, registering three saves during his 30-minutes played. Sophomore Patrick Ruleman took over as the goalkeeper for the Saints in the second half, and turned away six shots of his own. On the offensive end, the Saints fired off 26 shots, 18 of which were on target.

The Saints will continue CAC play next Saturday, April 8, hosting St. Mary's College of Maryland for Senior Day. First faceoff is set for 1 p.m., at Long Bridge Park.
