Box Score DOVER, Del. – In a Capital Athletic Conference battle in its final road contest of the season, the Marymount (Va.) University men's lacrosse team came up just short to Wesley College on Wednesday night, 11-9.
The Saints grabbed an early lead in the contest, putting away two goals within seven seconds of one another. Freshman Matthew Ebert connected with senior Matt Justice on the first one at the 11:39 mark of the first quarter, and by 11:32, sophomore Nathan Beard found the back of the net on an unassisted finish.
The Wolverines, however, answered with three-straight goals to put them before Beard and Ebert took advantage of a man-up opportunity to draw the score even at 3-3 with 2:08 remaining in the quarter. By the end of the first, Wesley would find the back of the cage two more times to take a lead that would hold until the second half.
Although the Saints trailed at the half, they still outscored Wesley in the second and third quarter, 3-2 in each. In the second, freshman Bryan Mcmanus, senior Nathan Hupp and junior Nick Hohman all put away unassisted goals. In the third trailing, 8-6, the Saints saw more scoring from Mcmanus and Ebert while sophomore Dylan Watkins added his lone contribution to draw the game even, 9-9, headed to the 15-minute stretch.
In the final quarter, the Wolverines halted the Saints' offense while finding the back of the net twice to take the 11-9 decision.
Freshman Grey Clarkson tended the net for the full 60 minutes for the Saints, registering six saves.
The men will conclude their regular season on Saturday, April 16 at home for senior day, as they host the University of Mary Washington for another conference matchup. First faceoff is set for 1 p.m., at Long Bridge Park.
