Box Score Arlington, Va. – The Marymount men's lacrosse team saw ten different players notch goals in an impressive 15-5 win over Wesley on Wednesday night. A hat trick from Nate Beard – his second this season – paced the squad, as the Saints improve to 5-9 overall and 2-5 in league play.
The first quarter saw the Saints firmly corner the Wolverines, using four quick goals to post the 4-0 advantage. Nico Burns and Max Johnson each pocketed unassisted tallies for the 2-0 Marymount lead by the 12:27 mark. With a man-up opportunity on the line, Garrett Nealon surveyed the zone carefully before threading a pretty pass to Beard for his first of the night. Sam Dupont rounded out the four-goal slide, shaking multiple defenders on a lengthy trek up-field before slamming home an eight-yarder at the 10:18 mark.
Despite a Wesley goal with 10:11 showing, Marymount remained undaunted. Mike Mene unleased a low laser for the 5-1 advantage, while Beard found Kellan McCarthy to extend the margin to five, 6-1, with 3:47 left to play in the first.
The second stanza proved quite the to-and-fro, with Shoshone Smith opening the scoring at 13:35 for the 7-1 Saints edge. Not even 20 seconds later, Wesley's Sam Seibert nullified the effort and cut the deficit to 7-2. Mene found McCarthy for a short-range strike with 7:02 on the clock, but the Wolverines – once again – responded in kind, notching a goal at 4:51 to close the first-half scoring bout. Marymount held the 8-3 lead heading into the break.
The Saints momentum remained well-intact coming out of the intermission as Beard netted his second tally with just 45 seconds gone. The Wolverines saw James Moss whittle the deficit to five, 9-4, before Nealon unleashed a picturesque strike from about ten yards out to re-up the ante. Mene weaved his way around the net just moments later, eventually finding Mike Stidham on the doorstep for another Marymount goal – good for the 11-4 advantage with 5:09 left to play in the third.
The clock barely had time to change before Wesley responded, but the Wolverines quick strike at the 5:05 mark would be their last. The Saints rounded out the third quarter with strikes from Nealon and Stidham – on feeds from Mene and McCarthy, respectively – for the 13-5 edge.
The fourth frame proved a quiet one, punctuated only by two Saints blasts – courtesy of Beard and Matt Justice – sealing the deal at 15-5.
Kevin Genna (2-2) takes the decision for Marymount, collecting 11 saves in a busy day between the pipes. Mene chipped in five points, while both Beard and Nealon registered four on the night.
Marymount returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Mary Washington for the regular season finale. Faceoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
