Box Score Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's baseball squad dropped a single-run decision to Wesley on Friday afternoon, falling 3-2 to the Wolverines. The Saints fall to 4-12 on the season and 0-3 in CAC action.
The contest saw Marymount struggle to string hits together. The Saints posted only one multi-hit inning, though they would outhit the Wolverines 9-7 in the effort.
Brandon Orbe and Gannon White both went 2-for-4 for the Blue and White, with Orbe tacking on his fourth double of the season. Karlis Graubics also went 2-for-2 on the day.
The Saints again fell victim to an early deficit, relinquishing three runs on four Wolverine hits in the bottom of the second inning.
After scoreless third and fourth frames, Marymount raised its revolt in the top of the fifth inning. Ben Berczek led off the inning with a bunt single, advancing to second on a Jack Breheny sacrifice bunt. In similar fashion, Brandon Savage would push Berczek over the third with another Saints sacrifice. With two outs, Orbe stepped in and delivered a single up the middle to plate Berczek. Bret Phillips would continue the two-out rally with a double down the left field line, scoring Orbe and cutting the deficit to one.
Marymount's two-run strike capped the day's scoring efforts, as neither team found the offensive firepower to plate another run in the game's final innings.
Saints hurler Brandon Orbe settled in nicely after surrendering those three runs in the second inning, striking out seven and shutting out the Wolverines the rest of the way. With the loss, Orbe falls to 2-4 on the season.
Marymount returns to action on Saturday when it hosts CAC foe York in a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
