Saints Use Early Offensive Surge to Top Cyclones

Box Score

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - The Marymount baseball team used an early offensive surge to push past the Centenary Cyclones on Friday to start off a key three-game AEC set.

With the win, the Saints moved to 23-12 overall and 5-8 in the Atlantic East.

Notables

  • Bryce Smith was a perfect 4-for-4 in game one of the series with two doubles and two walks. He also knocked in a run for the Saints.
  • Alex Lemery went 3-for-6 at the plate with a double, knocking in a pair of RBI.
  • Both Jimmy Baker and Jordan Dickson each had a hit and two RBI.
  • Senior Clint Wheeler put a stop to the Cyclones' late momentum to finish out the win with a strikeout.

How It Happened

  • The Saints put themselves on the board in the very first inning of the contest with Robby Cable scoring on a wild pitch.
  • After the Cyclones put up two of their own in the bottom of the first, Marymount answered with a nine-run offensive onslaught in the top of the second to retake a commanding lead. The inning was highlighted with two-RBI knocks from Dickson and Baker.
  • After the Cyclones scored six unanswered runs, they put themselves in position to tie up the game. Wheeler came in with two on in the bottom of the second and made a big pitch to cut off the Centenary momentum.
  • Marymount pushed across three insurance runs in the top of the ninth with RBI singles from Smith and Cable, which gave enough breathing room to allow Wheeler to close out the win with ease.

What's Next

  • Marymount will turn around and finish out the series tomorrow in doubleheader fashion with first pitch for game one scheduled for 12:00 PM.
