Powerful Offense on Display in Sunday Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Washington, D.C. - The Marymount baseball team were in full force on the offensive end of the baseball on Sunday, wrapping up the season series with the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins.

After some strong comebacks, the Saints ultimately settled for a split to move to 21-12 on the season, 4-8 in AEC baseball.

Game One

Notables

  • Ryan Lee had a double and two RBI in the opener of the day out of the DH spot.
  • Catcher Ryan Maylie had two hits and an RBI for the Saints.
  • Clint Wheeler pitched a complete game for Marymount, allowing just one earned run with five strikeouts to move to 2-1 on the season.

How It Happened

  • Staring at a 2-0 deficit heading into the later part of the game, the Saints put up four in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead. With bases loaded, Mason Burke gutted out a tough at-bat, taking the walk and pushing across Marymount's first run of the day.
  • In the same frame, Maylie knocked a sacrifice fly to tie the game.
  • The big blow in the contest came off the bat of Lee, lacing a double down the left field line to push two across and give the Saints the runs they needed to take the first game of the day.

Game Two

Notables

  • Jimmy Baker had one of his finest performances of the season, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and a double. He collected two RBI.
  • Lee was 2-for-4 with a home run and a double.
  • David Kurzrock knocked a two-run pinch hit home run late in the game.
  • Alex Lemery, Bryce Smith, Ryo Fabre, Jordan Dickson, and Maylie each knocked homers in game two.

How It Happened

  • Dickson knocked a solo home run over the right field wall in the top of the second to give the Saints an early 2-0 lead.
  • With two away in the bottom of the third, Lee, Fabre, and Baker knocked back-to-back-to-back home runs to give Marymount some life.
  • Smith led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run over the left field fence.
  • Lemery and Maylie each knocked solo homers in the bottom of the eighth to give the Saints some insurance.
  • After falling behind in the top of the ninth, Marymount continued to battle in the bottom of the frame, highlighted by Kurzrock's pinch hit home run, but ultimately fell short with the tying run on the base paths.

What's Next

  • The Saints are back in action at home on Tuesday, Apr. 26, hosting Wilson College in non-conference action with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 PM.
