Baseball Completes Season Sweep of Marywood

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SCRANTON, Pa. - The Marymount baseball team finished off a season series sweep of the Marywood Pacers on Wednesday, taking two games in shutout fashion.

With the two wins on the day, the Saints move to 20-10 overall, 3-6 in AEC play.

Game One

Notable

  • Kenny Sysyn moved to 5-3 on the year with the complete game shutout, only allowing three hits with six strikeouts
  • Robby Cable was a perfect 2-for-2 in the first game of the day, knocking a triple and scoring two runs.
  • Ryo Fabre, Alex Lemery, and Robert Moffett each notched an RBI in the contest.

How It Happened

  • The Saints hopped on the board for the first time on the day in the top of the third with an RBI single from Fabre, scoring Cable with ease who singled earlier in the frame.
  • Lemery knocked the second run of the third in via a sacrifice fly.
  • After a Cable triple to lead off the top of the fifth, Moffett quickly knocked a single to left to give Marymount some insurance.
  • After the first batter of the bottom of the seventh reached, Sysyn induced the quick double play and worked around a single to close out the game and give the Saints the shutout win.

Game Two

Notable

How It Happened

  • After two quiet innings, Cable led off the top of the third with a sharp single. After Moffett moved him over with a perfect sacrifice bunt, Dickson drove the ball up the middle, scoring Cable with ease.
  • Later in the same inning, Smith knocked another RBI single right back up the middle.
  • Maylie led off the top of the fourth with a double to right field, making his way to third via another sacrifice bunt, this time from Jimmy Baker. Moffett drove the ball deep enough to third, scoring Maylie.
  • Maylie led off the sixth with another double, moving over to third with a well-placed sacrifice bunt from Baker. This time, Cable dropped the suicide squeeze bunt play, and it worked, scoring Maylie from third to give the Saints some insurance.
  • Wheeler threw a perfect ninth inning to close out the day and give the Saints a much-needed conference sweep to give them momentum late in the season.

What's Next

  • The Saints have a key series this upcoming weekend, starting it off on the road at Gwynedd-Mercy on Saturday, Apr. 23 before coming home on Sunday for doubleheader action.
