Baseball Comes Up Short Against Immaculata

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Marymount University baseball team came up short against the Immaculata University Mighty Macs in Saturday's doubleheader.

Game One

The Mighty Macs took the game with a good fielding demonstration after the Saints registered seven hits but only managed one run which resulted in a 3-1 final score.

The Mighty Macs took the lead at the start of the game with two runs after four walks and one hit. The Saints responded with a hit in the bottom of the first, two in the second, one in the third and fourth, and two hits in the sixth but were unable to work a run until the bottom of the sixth inning. A single by Ryan Maylie to right field brought Ryan Lee home for the Saints one run. The Saints kept the Mighty Macs scoreless in innings two through six but Immaculata worked in one more run at the top of the seventh.

Maylie and Ryo Fabre worked the Saints only walks while Maylie registered the Saints only RBI. Kenny Sysyn and Parker Casselberry worked the mound for the Saints. Sysyn registered the loss for the Saints but registered eight strikeouts while the Mighty Macs registered only one strikeout the entire game. Casselberry added a strikeout of his own in one inning of work.

Game Two

The second game followed a similar trend as the first with the Mighty Macs starting the scoring with two runs in the second inning and ended the game in a 4-1 decision. The Saints once again found some traction at the bottom of the sixth inning where they registered their first run after a homer by Bryce Smith.

Smith registered the Saints only RBI and only run with his homer in the sixth inning. Maylie and Jimmy Baker worked the Saints only walks while Robby Cable, Lee, Jordan Dickson, Maylie, Alex Lemery, and Fabre registered the Saints hits. In the field Lemery, Bryce, and Fabre worked together for a double play in the seventh inning.

On the mound for the Saints, Drew Mead pitched the first six innings and struck out six batters. Coleman Grehawick, David Muirhead, and Clint Wheeler each stepped up for an inning to close out the game. Muirhead added three strikeouts during his inning of work.

The Saints play Immaculata again on Monday, April 4th. The game is scheduled to start at 3:30pm.
