WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Marymount University baseball team staged a late comeback on Friday evening, but the Saints couldn't find the runs they needed against Catholic University in a 10-6 loss.

The Cardinals struck early on their home field and managed to build a 5-0 lead through four innings. Marymount got on the board in the following frame with two runs in the top of the fifth. Ryan Maylie started the inning off with a single and moved into scoring position after a walk from Robby Cable. A grounder from Jordan Dickson scored Maylie, while a single from Alex Lemery cut into Catholic's lead and made it a 5-2 game. 

Catholic tacked on one run in the bottom of the fifth and plated four in the sixth inning to take a 10-2 lead. The Saints added one run in the top of the seventh via Dickson. The junior got on base with a single and moved to third after a single from Lemery. A wild pitch allowed Dickson to cross home plate and cut into the Cardinals' lead. 

MU continued to battle into the ninth inning and the Saints pieced together one final rally during the frame. With Lemery on second after a stolen base, Ryo Fabre worked a two-out walk. Ryan Lee dug in at the dish and launched a homer to left-centerfield to pull the Saints back within striking distance. MU was unable to keep the comeback going, however, as the Cardinals got the final out to seal the contest.  

Lemery led the Saints at the plate with a 3-for-5 performance. The senior finished with one RBI, one run, and one stolen base. Lee followed Lemery at the dish with a 2-for-3 day. He finished with three RBI, one run, and two walks. Maylie and Dickson added one hit apiece while Cable worked a trio of walks. 

The Saints have a quick turnaround when they host Stevenson University for a pair of contests on Saturday. Game one is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.
