Baseball Downs Husson, Falls to Keystone, to Close Out Spring Break Trip

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DAVENPORT, Fla. -- The Marymount University baseball team closed out its time in the Sunshine State with a pair of games on Wednesday, March, 9, and Thursday, March 10, against Husson University and Keystone College. The Saints downed the Eagles but fell to the Giants to wrap up their spring break travel.

MU vs. Husson

Marymount battled Husson late into the evening on Wednesday, March 9, and earned an 8-2 victory to earn its 11th win of the season. The Blue and White outhit the Eagles, 12-5, and used a pair of multi-run innings to put the game out of reach.

Ryan Lee and Ryo Fabre led the way for the Saints' offense at the plate. Lee went 3-for-5 with two RBI, while Fabre went 3-for-6 with one RBI and two runs. Alex Lemery matched Lee for the team lead in RBI and finished 1-for-3 with three walks and two runs.

On the mound, rookie Parker Casselberry earned the first win of his career. The right-hander threw 6.1 innings and struck out a pair of batters to propel the Saints to the win.

After a relatively defensive start of the game, MU broke through in the fourth inning. Alex Lemery laced a two-RBI triple that scored Robby Cable and David Kurzrock to make it 4-1. Fabre followed with a single that plated Lemery to put Marymount ahead, 5-1.  The Saints cruised from there, and tacked on another three runs in the ninth inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Lee to give the game its final scoreline.

MU  vs. Keystone

The Saints hung tough with Keystone on Thursday morning, but couldn't find the hits they needed in an 11-1 loss.

The Giants sported a balanced approach at the plate, which resulted in 10 hits for the Blue and White's opposition. Four different batters registered a hit for the Saints, highlighted by senior Bryce Smith. The Virginia Beach, Virginia, native swatted his first homer of the season to score the Saints' lone run.

Drew Mead, Jarrod Schmitz, Nathan Saber, Jake Keding, and Hunter Fries all saw action on the mound for the Saints. Mead finished with two strikeouts, while Saber and Fries both registered one strikeout.

Marymount returns to action on Sunday, March 13, when it hosts Lesley University for a twinbill at 12:00 p.m.
