Kurzrock's Walk-Off Homer Lifts Saints Over Widener

Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Marymount University baseball team fought a close battle with Widener University on Sunday, but came out victorious after a homerun in the ninth inning resulted in a 6-5 final score.

The Saints kept the Pride scoreless through four innings and tacked on two runs of their own during that time frame. Ryan Lee plated the first run of the game with a double in the first inning that scored Jordan Dickson. In the bottom of the third inning, Alex Lemery swatted the first homer of the game, to make it 2-0.

The Pride responded in the fifth inning with three hits and two runs, which knotted the score at 2-2. Widener took a short-lived lead in the top of the sixth, as the Saints scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh. Jimmy Baker brought home Dickson with a single, while Bryce Smith worked a walk with the bases loaded to tie the game at 4-4.

The game came down to the bottom of the 9th inning, as Widener went up by one at 5-4, after the visitors scored a pair in the top of the frame. David Kurzrock played the hero for the Saints, as the senior launched a two-run homer down the left field line to seal the win and bring the game to a close.

The Saints showcased great patience at the plate with seven walks throughout the contest. Dickson led the game with two runs, while Kurzrock finished with two RBI.  Remigio Ferrara paced the Saints at the dish with a 2-for-4 outing.

Dylan Heil was credited with the win on the mound for the Saints, which went down as the first of his career.

The Saints return to the field on Saturday, February 26, for their first away action of the season at Averett University. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 12:00 pm.
