Baseball Rolls Past Marywood in Doubleheader to Complete Sweep of Pacers

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Marymount University baseball team completed a perfect 3-0 week on Saturday evening with a pair of victories over Atlantic East Conference foe Marywood University.

Game One

The Saints' bats picked up right where they left off after Wednesday's victory, as MU crushed the Pacers, 15-1, in the opening game of the afternoon. Marymount racked up its 15 runs on eight hits. Alex Lemery, Bryan Harris, and Ryan Lee provided the fireworks, as each blasted a home run. Lee was excellent at the dish, with two hits in three at-bats and six RBI. Lemery drove in a pair of runs, while Bill Wojcik, Ryan Maylie, Bryce Smith, Harris, and Robby Cable all added one RBI each.

On the mound, senior Drew Mead turned in an excellent performance in his third outing of the season. Mead twirled 5.0 innings of two-hit ball to stifle the Pacers' offense. The left-hander registered 10 strikeouts, which marked a new career-best. Freshmen Alex Pawlowski and Hunter Fries combined to close out the seven-inning affair, as each tossed one inning. Fries tallied a pair of strikeouts in the top of the seventh to put a stamp on the contest.

Marymount jumped all over the Pacers early with a pair of five-run efforts in the first two innings. Lemery opened the scoring with a single through the left side. Smith added an RBI after moving the runners over with a sharply hit ball to second base. Lee cleared the bases with a single up the middle, and Cable ended the first inning barrage with another single.

The second inning saw the Saints load the bases. Smith worked a walk to force in a run and Lee provided fireworks in the next at-bat. The junior crushed a pitch high over the left-field fence for a grand slam. With a 10-0 lead, MU cruised for the remainder of the contest.

Game Two

Marymount continued to dominate its home field in the nightcap. Behind a strong effort from starter Justin DiDonato, the Saints picked up an 8-1 victory. The win pushed MU's conference record to a perfect 3-0.

DiDonato settled in after the first inning and proceeded to roll through the Pacers lineup. The senior tossed 6.0 innings and fanned four. The Garden City, New York, native gave up just two hits to secure his first win of the season.

While DiDonato was stellar on the mound, the Saints continued to rack up hits against Marywood's pitching staff. Maylie got things started in the bottom of the first inning. With one runner on base, the junior crushed a no-doubt homer out over the right-field wall that gave the Saints an early 2-0 lead.

MU doubled its lead in the next inning after a two-run single from Bobby Leitzel. James DiGiulian drove in another run in the bottom of the third inning, to give MU a 5-0 lead. The Saints tacked on a pair in the sixth inning before DiGiulian laced a double into left field that plated Smith for the Saints' final run in the seventh.

Marymount returns to action on Thursday, April 1, for a home contest against Gwynedd Mercy University. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
