Box Score FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Marymount University baseball team closed out its spring break trip on Thursday morning, falling to Gettysburg College, 16-2.
Both teams were only able to muster a hit apiece in the first-two innings, with senior Drew Mead only allowing one base runner through the first and second.
The Bullets opened the scoring in the top of the third with one run, and the Saints quickly tied the score in the bottom of the inning.
After freshman Bobby Leitzel tripled, he was driven home on a sacrifice fly by senior Mike Ferrara.
Gettysburg put two across in the fourth to regain the lead, before scoring eight runs in the fifth to open up the game.
Junior Casey Baker connected for an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth, scoring Ferrara, but that is all the Bullets would surrender to the Saints the rest of the way.
Gettysburg tallied five runs over the last four innings, securing the win.
Leitzel and Baker, each, tallied two hits to lead the team.
Marymount will be back in action on Saturday, March 14 at Nationals Youth Baseball Academy to host McDaniel College in a doubleheader; the first game is set for 12 p.m.
