Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Marymount University baseball team dropped a non-conference nine-inning contest to Gettysburg College on Sunday afternoon, 12-2, at Nationals Youth Baseball Academy.
Junior Stephen Gerade took the start on the hill for the Saints, settling in quickly in the first inning with two groundouts and a fly out to left field to junior Casey Baker. The second frame was even shorter, seeing just three batters. The first at-bat was a single, but was erased with a double play on the next play that was kicked off by a nice scoop from freshman shortstop Bobby Leitzel. The inning came to a close with Gerade sitting down the Bullet batter on a strikeout swinging.
In the bottom of the second, the scoring silence was eliminated when junior Jame DiGiulian sent a sacrifice fly to left field, bringing in sophomore Ryan Maylie from third.
The early 1-0 lead for the Saints wasn't long lasting, as the Bullets put up six runs in the third inning to take a lead that held through the rest of the game.
The sixth inning, Marymount added its last run of the game on a wild pitch, allowing junior Bill Wojcik to sprint home.
The Saints had six pitchers on the mound throughout the game, totaling five strikeouts led by sophomore Clint Wheeler with three in his 1.2 innings of work.
The team has one game left before they hop a plane for Spring Break in Florida, hosting St. Mary's College of Maryland on Wednesday, March 4. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
