Baseball takes two from Dickinson, 11-7 and 5-0

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Marymount University baseball team earned a doubleheader sweep of Dickinson College on Saturday, pulling out 11-7 and 5-0 wins at Nationals Youth Baseball Academy.

Marymount 11, Dickinson 7

The Saints wasted little time jumping out to a sizeable lead in the first game, with six runs in the first two innings.

In the first, walks to senior Mike Ferrara and sophomore Bryce Smith set up a two-run double off the bat of sophomore Ryan Maylie.

Junior Casey Baker followed that with a home run to push the lead to 4-0.

Ferrara came through in the second with an RBI double, after sophomore Alex Lemery led off with a single. Ferrara, then, scored on a single by junior Bill Wojcik.

The Red Devils got on the board with runs in the fourth and fifth, but the Saints broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Junior James DiGiulian got things going with a single to score sophomore Ryan Lee. Following a single by sophomore David Kurzrock, both DiGiulian and Kurzrock were driven home by Lemery's single.

Ferrara tacked on two more RBI, driving in Kurzrock and freshman Jordan Dickson, who doubled in the prior at-bat, to take an 11-2 lead.

Dickinson looked to come back, putting up five runs in the top of the sixth, but senior Kenny Sysyn came in in the final inning and 1/3 in relief to secure the win. He only allowed two hits and struck out three.

Junior Drew Mead earned the win in the game, pitching five innings and striking out five, while allowing only two runs.

Marymount 5, Dickinson 0

The Saints capitalized early on another solid outing by senior Justin DiDonato, who earned the win in six innings of three-hit baseball. He struck out six, as well.

Baker gave the team all they needed in the first inning, launching his second homer of the day, following a walk by Wojcik, for a 2-0 lead.

Following three-up, three-down innings in the second and third by DiDonato, Marymount furthered its lead in the third.

Wojcik singled, before Baker doubled, bringing junior Bryan Harris to the plate. Harris connected for a three-run home run, putting the Saints ahead, 5-0.

Marymount cruised from there, as senior Matthew Schneider pitched the final inning, striking out two and capping the win.

Baker finished his day going three-for-six at the plate, in the two games, while smacking two homers, scoring three runs, and driving in four. Ferrara and Harris, each, had three RBI on the day.

The Saints will be back in action on Sunday, March 1, hosting Gettysburg College at Nats Youth Academy; the game is set for 1 p.m.
