Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Marymount University baseball team slipped in a twin bill to Arcadia University on Saturday afternoon at the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy, falling to 3-2 for the season.
Game One: Arcadia 6, Marymount 3
The first game of the day had the two teams scoreless through the first three innings, as junior Drew Mead tossed five innings in his second start of the season. Out of his five frames, four of the innings had no runs come across while striking out eight.
However, the Knights crossed two in the fourth to take a lead that they would hold throughout.
In the sixth inning, a pitching change brought senior Will DiGiulian to the mound from right field, as Arcadia added its final four runs in the frame off three hits.
The final frame had a lot of action, with sophomore Clint Wheeler taking over for the final inning on the mound for no hits and a strikeout. He was followed in the bottom of the inning with three runs for the Saints off the first home run of the season for sophomore Bryce Smith, launching a a bomb for three RBI.
Unfortunately, the Saints couldn't close the deficit any more, dropping the 6-3 decision.
Game Two: Arcadia 7, Marymount 5
In the final game of the day, the Knights scored runs in the first four innings, carrying a 6-0 lead into the fifth.
With no scoring through the fifth and the top half of the sixth, the Saints crossed their first run of the game in the bottom of the sixth when sophomore Ryan Maylie sent a single to left centerfield to bring around junior Casey Baker.
The Knights add their final run in the top of the seventh, before Marymount continued to close the gap in the final at-bat in the bottom of the frame.
With bases loaded, sophomore Kenny Frank stepped in as a pinch hitter, walking for the RBI and the second run of the game. He was followed on the next at-bat by junior James DiGiulian who launched a double over the right-fielder's head to score three runs to get the Saints within two, 7-5.
However, that's as close as they'd get, as a strikeout on the next at-bat finished out the game.
Junior Bill Wojcik had a solid game two as the designated hitter, going 3-for-3 with a run.
The Saints will look to bounce back on Sunday, February 23, hosting Albright College for another twin bill at Nationals Youth Academy. Game one is set to start at 12 p.m.
