GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The third-seeded Marymount University baseball team took on second-seeded Gwynedd Mercy University for the second time in an Atlantic East Conference tournament first-round pod on Saturday morning, falling 19-9 to end the Saints' run, in the double-elimination tournament.

The teams struck early and often, combining for 17 runs in the first-five innings, with the Saints jumping out to a 3-0 lead through the top of the second.

In the second, senior Cal Berman reached on an error and stole second. On the steal, another Griffins' error allowed Berman to advance to third. Junior Mike Ferrara pushed the lead to 3-0 with an RBI ground out, bringing Berman home.

Gwynedd Mercy tied the game in its half of the second, but sophomore Bill Wojcik regained the lead for the Saints, 5-3, with one swing of his bat in the third on a two-run home run.

The Griffins again fought back, breaking out for five runs in the bottom of the third to take their first lead, 8-5.

The Saints continued to strike, allowing them to score in each of the first-five innings. Another Griffins error, followed by a single by Tyree, put two on in the fourth. Sophomore James DiGiulian scored on a fielder's choice, allowing Wade to reach; Wade then came home on a double by Hall, cutting the Griffins' lead to 8-7.

Tyree drove home the tying run in the fifth, bringing the score to 8-8, but Gwynedd Mercy retook the lead, 9-8, in the bottom of the inning. The Saints again were able to knot the score in the seventh, as Ferrara walked to get a man on. He came home on a base knock by DiGiulian.

However, the Griffins broke the game open with 10 runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a 19-9 lead.
