Saints fall to Mustangs to start Bison Baseball Classic

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Marymount University baseball team opened the Bison Baseball Classic on Friday afternoon at Gallaudet University, falling to Stevenson University, 5-1.

The Saints jumped out to an early lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning.

Senior Luke Tyree led of with a single up the middle, before advancing to second on a bunt single by freshman Alex Lemery.

The pair moved up to second and third on a sacrifice bunt by senior Conner Hall. Tyree came home on the next at bat on a grounder to the shortstop off the bat of sophomore Casey Baker.

The Mustangs quickly tied the game in the top of the second with a home run by Alex Kidwiler. They would add runs in the third and fourth innings, as well, including a second homer from Kidwiler to take a 3-1 lead.

Stevenson's Joe Thompson stifled the Marymount offense in the middle and late innings of the game, only allowing one base runner after the third inning.

The Saints' best scoring chance came in the eighth inning when Hall and Baker walked to get two on with two out. However, they were unable to capitalize.

The Mustangs tacked two runs on in the ninth, as they were able to put the game away.

Lemery went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the team, while Baker drove in the team's run.

The Saints will continue the Bison Baseball Classic on Saturday, February 23 against Washington (Md.) College; the game is set for 10 a.m.
