LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Marymount baseball team wrapped up the 2018 season on Wednesday evening, falling on the road to Lynchburg College, 9-6. 

A back-and-forth nine-inning game had the Saints ahead by one through seven innings, 6-5, but a four-run eighth boosted the Hornets to the victory in their final home game of the season. 

Marymount was the first to bring a run across, scoring in the top of the first when junior Conner Hall sent a high-fly sacrifice to centerfield to score bring home senior Javier Herrera. In the bottom of the first, Lynchburg rattled off three runs on a RBI single and a two-RBI double to take a 3-1 advantage. 

The deficit for the Saints was short lived, coming back in the second for two runs. Freshman Bryan Harris, as the designated hitter, sent a RBI double to left field to score junior Austin Sizemore. Harris made his way home two batters later when Herrera attempted a steal to second, while Harris sprinted home. 

Over the next four innings, the Hornets scored twice to take back over the lead at 5-3 before Marymount answered with three in the top of the seventh. Herrera sent his lone hit of the game to left field to score freshman catcher James DiGiulian, and a fielding error on a junior Luke Tyree at-bat scored Herrera and junior Ryan Scheufele. 

With a 6-5 lead, the Saints needed nine more outs to seal up the season-ending victory. However, the bottom of the eighth went in the favor of Lynchburg, crossing four runs to seal up the 9-6 decision. 

Marymount ends the season with a 13-23 overall record.
