SALISBURY, Md. – Early runs in the first inning put the Marymount baseball team behind No. 19 Salisbury University, which held up for the 6-1 decision in favor of the Sea Gulls in the CAC nine-inning matchup on Wednesday afternoon. 

On one hit in the bottom of the first, Salisbury maneuvered five runs across home plate to a lead that held up throughout the game. 

Subtracting away the first inning, the other eight innings played close, only seeing each team put across one run in the fifth inning. Marymount's lone run score came on a single to center field by freshman Gavin Canipe, scoring freshman Jake Mellor from second. 

Sophomore Justin DiDonato earned the start on the mound, but was relieved in the first inning by freshman Ryan Bergenhagen. His day went seven innings for five hits and two runs before sophomore Matthew Schneider came in for the final inning for just one hit. 

With some adjustments to the lineup, junior Ryan Scheufele was moved to the leadoff spot where he went 3-for-4 on the day. 

For the Sea Gulls, Connor Reeves tossed a complete game for 11 strikeouts and his ninth win of the season on the mound. 

Marymount will look to bounce back in a must-win doubleheader at Wesley College on Saturday, April 21. Game one is set to begin at 12 p.m.
