HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – The Marymount baseball team fell behind in the middle innings to Hampden-Sydney, eventually dropping a 7-4 decision in the non-conference matchup. 

The Saints (2-3) fell behind in the bottom half of the first, 1-0, but rallied back with three-straight runs of their own through the next two at-bats. In the top of the second, senior Javier Herrera got stuck in a pickle between first and second, inevitably getting caught stealing. But in the process, junior Conner Hall at third base sprinted home for the tying run. 

In the top of third, senior Kaden Darrow put the Saints ahead with a 2-RBI double to score freshmen Bryan Harris and Gavin Canipe for the 3-1 advantage. 

However, over the next three frames, the Tigers (3-1) brought around six runs to take a 7-3 lead. While the Saints made an effort to close the deficit, scoring a run in the top of the seventh, the pitching for the Tigers in the final four innings only allowed four hits. 

Senior Collin Bazemore teamed up with three other Saints including junior Patrick Berthelette and sophomores Matthew Schneider and Justin DiDonato through the eight innings on the mound. Bazemore, the starter for the day, registered four strikeouts, while DiDonato fanned three of his own. Schneider, giving up two earned runs, was given the loss on the hill. 

The Saints head back to Arlington for their home opener this weekend, opening a three-game weekend series against Western Connecticut State. A doubleheader is slated for 12 p.m., and 3 p.m., at Bishop O'Connell High School on Saturday, March 3, with a matinee at 12 p.m., on Sunday.
