Box Score HARRISBURG, Pa. - After a poor first-half shooting performance by both teams, the Marymount women's basketball team scored 42 second-half points while shooting 58.1 percent from the floor as the Saints pulled away for a 61-43 victory over the Penn State Harrisburg Wednesday night at The Capital Union Building.
Marymount (21-3, 16-1 CAC) picked up its 16th conference win of the season, equaling the mark it set two years ago when the team won the CAC regular season championship. Since the CAC expanded to 10 teams prior to the 2014-15 season, only one team has finished the regular season with 17 conference victories. Mary Washington went 17-1 that season.
This year, both the Saints and Christopher Newport have a chance to reach 17 CAC wins as the Captains defeated Mary Washington Wednesday night, 80-53.
Senior Nicole Viscuso led the team with a game-high 16 points to go along with eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Senior Leah Hurst added 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
The Nittany Lions (6-18, 1-16 CAC) held a slim 20-18 halftime lead after neither team shot the ball well in the opening half. Marymount was 9-of-29 from the floor for 31.0 percent while Penn State Harrisburg fared a little better, going 8-or-19 for 42.1 percent.
However, the Saints scored 21 third-quarter points while holding the Nittany Lions to just 10 to take a 40-30 lead going into the fourth.
Marymount would tack on another 21 points in the final frame as it outscored Penn State Harrisburg, 42-23, in the second half to post the 18-point victory.
Viscuso scored 12 of her 16 points in the second half while Hurst totaled 11 of her 15.
Sophomore Regan Lohr finished with 11 points and junior Tyffani McQueen had eight.
The Saints wrap-up the regular season on Saturday when they travel to Mary Washington. Tip-off is at 1 p.m. Marymount defeated the Eagles at home back on January 13, 57-46.
