Second-Half Surge Carries Saints Past Penn State Harrisburg, 63-46

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. - After both teams combined for just 40 first-half points, the Marymount women's basketball team totaled 41 in the second as the Saints pulled away for their 14th-straight win at home with a 63-46 CAC victory over Penn State Harrisburg Wednesday night at Verizon Sports Arena.

With the win, Marymount (14-2, 9-0 CAC) remained unbeaten in nine CAC games this season, marking the first time since joining the league that the team has started conference play with nine consecutive wins.

The Saints' 14 wins through their first 16 games is their best start to a season since the team started 15-1 during the 2009-10 season.

Marymount led 22-18 at the half before outscoring the Nittany Lions 41-38 in the second half, including 21-11 in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Regan Lohr scored all of her game-high 13 points in the fourth quarter as she had two three-pointers and was 3-for-3 from the free throw line. Senior Leah Hurst had seven third-quarter points as she and Lohr combined for 20 of the team's 41 second-half points.

Hurst finished with 11 points, five rebounds and five assists while senior Nicole Viscuso totaled 13 points and eight rebounds, the fourth time this year she has missed her first double double of the season by just two rebounds.

Neither team shot the ball well in the opening half as the Saints clung to a four-point lead after shooting 25.7 percent compared to 25.0 percent for Penn State Harrisburg. Marymount held the Nittany Lions to just six second-quarter points, four of which came from the free throw line as they were just 1-for-11 from the floor.

Penn State Harrisburg (6-10, 1-8 CAC) led 10-4 with 3:35 remaining in the first quarter before the Saints used a 10-2 run to take their first lead on a lay-up by sophomore Gabriella Haddad with 9:25 left in the second.

Marymount stretched its lead to eight, 22-14, before the Nittany Lions finally scored on a lay-up with 51 seconds to play in the first half, ending a streak of 12:44 without a field goal.

The Saints scored 24 points off 22 Penn State Harrisburg turnovers while finishing with a season-low five turnovers of their own. The last time Marymount had that few turnovers was Feb. 11, 2012 when it also had five in a 73-52 CAC win at Hood.

Junior Tyffani McQueen was the fourth Saint to score in double figures as she had 10 points.

Marymount continues its four-game homestand on Saturday when it welcomes St. Mary's (Md.) to Verizon Sports Arena for a 1 p.m., tip-off.
