WINCHESTER, Va. – The Marymount (Va.) University baseball team faced off against the top team in the country Monday afternoon in Shenandoah University, dropping a 16-4 decision on the road. 

Although the game remained scoreless into the second frame, the Hornets pulled ahead early with six runs in the bottom of the second. The Saints answered in the top of the third with one run when sophomore Luke Tyree sent out a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing home senior Marlon Mitchell. 

Shenandoah added another pair of run ins the fourth, but Marymount broke open for a few more of its own in the top of the sixth. Senior Brandon Savage started up the three-run inning with a double to right field to score Tyree, and was brought home off a RBI single by senior Roy Coates to center field. Not soon after, sophomore Conner Hall placed a ball into deep right centerfield four a RBI double to score Coates to get MU back within four, 8-4. 

Unfortunately, the Hornets' bats remained hot, scoring eight more runs in the final three innings to take the decision. 

The Saints will now open up Capital Athletic Conference tournament play on Tuesday, April 18. As the fifth seed, Marymount will travel for the first-round game to second-seeded Christopher Newport University. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m., in Newport News, Virginia.
