Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – The Marymount (Va.) University baseball team jumped out to a 4-0 lead against Capital Athletic Conference opponent Salisbury University on Monday afternoon, but the advantage slipped away through the nine-inning game, dropping a 15-6 decision.
Senior left-handed pitcher Spenser Davis took the start on the mound for the Saints, touching the hill in the bottom half of the first frame with a 3-0 advantage to work with on the scoreboard. With the bases loaded quickly in the top of the first, senior Roy Coates sent a single through the right side into the outfield to bring home sophomore Luke Tyree and senior Brandon Savage for the 2-0 lead. The next at –bat, senior Marlon Mitchell came jogging home when freshman Michael Tourony sent a ball to centerfield for his first collegiate RBI.
Davis worked through the bottom of the frame keeping the Sea Gulls off the scoreboard, and the Saints continued to build up the lead in the second. With runners in scoring position, Tyree sent a sacrifice fly to the centerfielder, scoring senior Karlis Graubics to push the 4-0 lead.
By the bottom of the third, SU cut its deficit to two with a double that score two runners. In the fourth, the Gulls took over the lead with five more runs, and added three more in the sixth.
The Saints halted the scoring frenzy by the Gulls with a two-run homer off the bat by Savage in the seventh, but those were the last runs to cross the plate for MU for the rest of the day.
The men will look to bounce back on Wednesday, March 15 against Penn State University-Harrisburg for another league matchup in Arlington. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
