Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount (Va.) University baseball team faced off against Lynchburg College on Saturday afternoon, taking the 7-3 decision in nine innings at Barcroft Park to start off its four-game home stand in the win column.
Junior Collin Bazemore toed the rubber for the Saints, putting in a solid five-inning effort for his second win of the season. He held the Hornets to just one run, while striking out six in his campaign. Sophomore Patrick Berthelette came in relief in the sixth inning, and would also only allow one earned run while striking out three of his own. Sophomore Conner Hall would come in to pitch the final inning and two thirds to seal the Saints' third win of the season and his second save of the year.
Despite the Hornets bringing in the first run of the game with a homerun in the top of the second, that would be the only time they would see the lead.
The Saints were led by Hall on the offensive front, where he would give the Saints a one-run advantage in the bottom of the second inning, doubling down the left-field line to score two.
Seniors Ben Berczek and Brandon Orbe, and junior Hayes Nelson, all notched two hits in the matchup. Senior Lorenzo Calderon also had an impressive day at the plate, where he went 3-5 including a double.
Ben Berczek launched a drive over the left-field fence in the bottom of the fifth inning for the Saints' first long ball of the 2017 season.
Action continues this weekend for the Saints, where they will host a twin bill against Western Connecticut State University on Sunday, February 26 at Nationals Youth Academy in Washington, D.C. Game one is set to begin at 12 p.m., with a seven-inning game two to follow.
