Box Score HARRISBURG, Pa.— The No. 25 Marymount (Va.) University women's basketball squad rounded out its 2016-17 regular season with a victory over Penn State University-Harrisburg on Saturday afternoon in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup, 63-47, earning it the No. 3 seed in the league tournament and home court advantage on Tuesday night.
Through the first 10 minutes of play, the Saints fell behind 12-10 before rallying back in the second quarter. The momentum shifted in favor of the blue and white to open the quarter, seeing freshman Gabriella Haddad find the back of the net to ignite an 8-0 run, giving the Saints an 18-12 lead. Freshman Lauryn Stouffer ended the half at the line, sinking both free throws, as Marymount headed to the locker rooms leading, 25-15, at the half.
In the third quarter, the Lions rallied back to get within three of the Saints, 33-30. The Saints responded with several small runs to maintain their lead. With just under two minutes left in the quarter, freshman Regan Lohr, junior Nicole Viscuso and freshman Tenesha Green each added a layup to put the Saints back up by nine.
Marymount was able to maintain a lead through the final 10 minutes of regulation, with Viscuso adding a quick jumper to gain an 11-point advantage. Senior Kiki Laux paced the Saints through the remainder of the quarter, adding seven points, while going 3-for-3 from the line. Junior Leah Hurst set freshman Maddy DeCou for the final points of the game, with the Saints finishing on top, 63-47.
Laux pieced together an impressive performance, bolstering a game-high 19 points and eight rebounds. Lohr added 12 points and Viscuso posted 10 points and nine rebounds. On the defensive end, Hurst posted a game-high six steals.
Marymount earned a third seed in the CAC Championships, and will host the sixth-seeded Salisbury University in round one of the tournament on Tuesday, February 21. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m., in the Verizon Sports Arena.
