Box Score MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Senior Kievanna Lacey and the Marymount (Va.) University women's basketball team sailed to a 68-50 victory on Wednesday night on the road at Penn State University-Harrisburg, extending their win streak to seven games and maintaining the top spot in the Capital Athletic Conference with a 14-1 record.
Lacey guided the Saints' offense for the night with a game-high 20 points, her third game this season with 20-plus, as Marymount (19-3, 14-1 CAC) shot 47.3 percent from the floor. Sophomores Leah Hurst and Nicole Viscuso also chipped in for double figures with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
MU never trailed in the contest, jumping on the Lions early with the opening four points. Senior Miranda Krott knocked in the first two points off free throws before Hurst picked off her first of a game-high five steals to find Lacey on the transition layup for the quick 4-0 lead. The Saints built the lead to as much as eight points in the first quarter, but PSU was able to cut it down to two with 30 seconds remaining. It wouldn't last long though, as Viscuso pulled down an offensive rebound and was able to get off the shot as time expired to take an 18-14 advantage into the next 10-minute stretch.
The second quarter was a battle for the beginning half of the stretch, seeing the Lions draw the score even at 22-22 by the 4:32 mark. But the Saints hit a spark by that point, kicking off an eight-point run to stretch the advantage back out to eight. Hurst opened up the run with a layup before picking off another steal, drawing the foul and hitting the front end on a trip to the free-throw line. Senior Aileen Maknati came in off the bench to knock in her first of two three-pointers for the game, while Viscuso capped off the run with a layup off a dish by freshman Tyffani McQueen.
By the end of the half, two free throws by Lacey extended the Saints' lead to double digits, 36-26, to take to the locker room.
The third quarter is where Marymount put the game away, using a 15-9 period to gain a 51-35 advantage over the Lions. In the quarter, five different Saints registered baskets including two three-pointers, one by Maknati and one by McQueen, and a three-point play by Lacey.
In the final 10-minute stretch, there was no difference. By the 6:33 mark, MU hit its largest lead of the game, pushing the advantage to 21 following an offensive board and put back by Krott.
For the game, Marymount forced 24 Lion turnovers including 13 steals. Hurst paced the defense with a game-high five steals while Lacey picked off four. In the paint, Krott swatted away two shots, while Viscuso and Lacey added a block a piece. Viscuso posted a team-high six rebounds for the night, while Lacey pulled down five, four of which were offensive.
