Box Score 2 Winchester, Va. – The Marymount baseball team split a nonconference bout at Shenandoah on Sunday afternoon, dropping the opener 9-1 before rebounding with a 6-1 victory in the nightcap. Marymount now owns a 14-17 record for the year.
The opener saw the Hornets bury the Saints with quite the offensive display. The host posted a run in the first and two more in the third for the early 3-0 advantage. It was the six-run surge in the fifth inning that proved the dagger – giving Shenandoah the overwhelming 9-0 edge. Marymount responded with a lone tally in the seventh, but the damage was good as done. The seven-inning affair ended strongly in Shenandoah's favor, 9-1.
Six different Saints notched hits in the effort, with Brandon Padgett collecting his third career homerun in the effort.
The nightcap proved an entirely different story. Marymount wasted no time setting the tone, plating two runs in the first, three in the second, and one in third for an auspicious 6-0 cushion. Shenandoah mounted its minuscule coup in the fifth, pushing a sole run across the dish, but that would be all for either side.
Saints starter Collin Bazemore went the distance, scattering just four hits while fanning eight in his seven innings of work.
Padgett rounded out his stellar day with a 3-for-4 outing in the win, while Stephen Berczek notched a 2-for-3 performance to close out his day.
Marymount returns to action on Monday when it hosts Virginia Wesleyan at the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy in Washington, D.C. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.
