Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Rocky Mount, N.C. – The Marymount baseball squad split its league doubleheader with Christopher Newport on Sunday afternoon, using a one-hit shutout to swipe the nightcap, 3-0. The Saints dropped their league opener, 19-13, before the shortened second game – called in the fifth inning due to darkness – saw Marymount top the conference rival.
The Saints now own a 3-3 record on the season and a 1-1 mark in CAC action.
Ben Berczek took the decision on the hill in the second game, tossing the one-hit shutout to notch his first win of the 2015 season. Chas Hinkle provided the offense as the twilight descended, smacking a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth to seal the deal.
The victory proves the Saints first over the Captains since program inception a year ago.
