Box Score Arlington, Va. – The Marymount women's basketball team marched past Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday night, overwhelming the visiting Lions, 63-40. The Saints improve to 15-7 and 11-4 in CAC action with the win.
Three different Saints scored in double-figures, while the squad rebounded very much by committee – spreading its 34 total boards among seven different players. Kievanna Lacey paced the Marymount attack with her 14 points on the night, while Miranda Krott and Kiki Laux added 11 and ten points, respectively.
Though Penn State rang in the first four points, the Saints countered with an 11-0 run to quickly put the visitors on notice by the 11:31 mark. The seven-point lead, 11-4, expanded more so over the next several minutes, with Marymount mounting a 12-2 rally and upping the ante to 16 points, 29-13, with just 1:31 remaining in the first half.
Each team netted another bucket before the break, making the score 31-16 at intermission.
The second half proved similar to the first, in that the Saints continued to make two baskets to every Lions one. The Marymount lead slowly compounded, eventually reaching a devastating 23 points, 50-27, by the ten-minute mark.
While the Lions fought within 20 points several times, Marymount did not relent, and maintain the large margin for the remainder of the contest. The 23-point deficit resurfaced as the final seconds melted away – 63-40.
On the night, Marymount poured in a 44.0% (22-for-50) effort from the floor – vastly outshooting the Lions and their 30.4% (17-for-56 mark).
The Saints return to action on Saturday as they travel to Christopher Newport for a CAC battle. Tip time is set for 2 p.m.
