Box Score Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's baseball team traveled to #17 Salisbury on Wednesday afternoon, falling 4-2 to the host Sea Gulls. The Saints slip to 6-23 on the season and 0-13 in CAC play.
The Blue and White procured only three hits in the loss, each coming from a different Saint. Senior Macon Heikes continued his consistency at the plate, extending his team-leading hit streak to 12 games with a base knock in the first inning.
The Marymount offense wasted no time, jumping on the Sea Gulls right away in the opening frame. Karlis Graubics led off the contest with a single up the middle and would be moved methodically around the bases by his teammates. Graubics swiped second base on his own, but used a Lorenzo Calderon sacrifice bunt to advance to third. Anthony Perretti followed with a grounder to shortstop, which proved just enough to bring Graubics safely in to score.
Salisbury answered back in its half of the third, using a trio of singles to plate the equalizer. The Sea Gulls went on to take the lead in the fifth, pushing across another lone strike on two walks, a single and a sacrifice fly.
Faced with a 2-1 deficit heading into the seventh, the Saints struck back to knot the score at 2-2. Marymount's third and final hit was laced up the middle, courtesy of rookie shortstop Sean Gallagher. Gallagher took second base himself and then moved over to third on a Jack Breheny sacrifice bunt. A timely pitch in the dirt and subsequent ricochet allowed Gallagher to cross the plate easily.
The Salisbury offense, however, wasted no time breaking the short-lived stalemate. The Sea Gulls used a Marymount error and a walk to set the table for Jordan Gowe, who sent a two-RBI double to left center to cap the day's scoring.
Marymount returns to action on Friday as it hosts CAC rival Penn State Harrisburg at 1 p.m.
