Box Score Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's baseball squad dropped a 4-1 decision to CAC newcomer Penn State Harrisburg on Thursday afternoon. The Saints slide to 4-19 on the season and 0-9 in conference action.
The teams combined for five runs on the day, all of which came in what proved to be quite an eventful fifth inning.
The Saints were able to methodically push across their lone tally in the top of the frame. Sean Gallagher took an inside offering to the forearm to lead off the Saints' offensive strike. Back-to-back bunts from Lorenzo Calderon and Karlis Graubics – a sacrifice and a single, respectively – put runners on the corners with only one out for Macon Heikes. Heikes sent a lofty liner out to left field for the second out, but struck the ball well enough for Gallagher to trot home from third and procure the 1-0 advantage.
The bottom half of the frame saw the Lions go above and beyond in terms of rebuttal. Penn State Harrisburg used four hits – including a bases-clearing triple – to plate its four runs and cap the day's scoring.
Gallagher turned in a 2-for-2 performance at the plate, while five other Saints also notched base knocks in the effort.
Jake Brown went the distance for the Blue and White, striking out six in the loss. He drops to 0-5 on the year.
Marymount returns to the diamond for a CAC doubleheader on Saturday against visiting St. Mary's College. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
