Box Score 2 ARLINGTON, Va. – Marymount University men's volleyball team split a pair of conference matches against Immaculata University and Juniata College. The Saints took the first game, against Immaculata, 3-0, and lost the second, against Juniata, 0-3.
Game One
The Saints made quick work of the Mighty Macs, and took all three sets with at least a seven-point lead. The Saints won the first set 25-15, the second 25-8, and the final set 25-18.
The Saints started the first set on a roll and registered an eight-point streak with seven kills. The second match started a little closer with some more back and forth but with the score at 8-15, Saints in the lead, the Blue and White ran and registered ten uninterrupted points. Jeremy Wimmer set a personal best with five consecutive service aces and Luke Morris added two kills. The third set was the closest but a kill by Nick Mariel finished the game.
Caden Kelty led the game in kills with 11 and Wimmer, Luke Pogue, and Will Wright each added five. Grayson Andrews and Joseph Crowder were essential for the Saints with 17 and 25 assists, respectively. Pogue and Kelty paired up for the Saints defense both with two block assists.
Game Two
The Saints faced a tougher opponent in Juniata College and fell short in three sets.
Juniata started out fast and built a 7-2 lead but the Saints chipped away at it and tied the game at 15. Two kills by Hayden Kerekes and attack errors by the Eagles gave the Saints the lead and made it anyone's game but the Eagles brought a strong finish and won 25-21. The Eagles used the momentum to take and maintain the lead in the second set and take it 25-21. The Saints regrouped and took control of the third set. The Saints kept the set tied and took the lead near the end but ended up tied, 22-22. In the end the Eagles came out on top 25-23.
Raymond Tarasi and Kerekes led the Saints in kills with eight each while Kerekes led in attack percentage with a .417. Will Wright followed close behind with six kills and an attack percentage of .333. Sava Topich with the help of Andrews supported the Saints offense with 21 and 11 assists. Tarasi registered the Saints only solo block while Topich, Kerekes, Jason Perkins, and Wright each registered two block assists.
The Saints play at Penn State Altoona on Friday, April 1st. The game is scheduled to start at 5:00pm.
