Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Marymount University men's lacrosse team hung tough with the University of Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon but were unable to keep pace with the Eagles' balanced offensive attack in a 20-10 defeat.
MU ended the tilt with a slim lead in shots, 48-47, and forced the Eagles into 22 turnovers. Despite the high shot total, MU was unable to consistently convert against UMW's defense and netminder Riley Green, who posted 12 saves against the Saints' barrage.
The Saints' offense was driven by Clark Akers. The senior standout poured in five points on four goals and one assist. With the performance, Akers became the all-time leading point-scorer in Marymount history. The Springfield, Virginia native now has 196 points on his ledger and passed Paul Shiavone for the program lead.
Outside of Akers, Charlie Wittich supplied four points on three goals and one assist. Troy Tangolics added two goals and one helper, while Gavin Taylorson potted one goal and a team-high three assists. Hunter Ralston rounded out MU's point-producers with an assist.
Brandon Hall started in goal and made 13 saves in 60:00 of action. Hall, Tangolics, and Dylan Staley finished tied for the team lead with six ground balls apiece. Daniel Laguardia and Tangolics posted a team-best two caused turnovers each.
The Saints return to action on Saturday, April 2, when they open Atlantic East Conference play against Marywood University at Long Bridge Park. The contest is set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
