Men's Lacrosse Tops Westminster on the Road

Box Score

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Marymount University men's lacrosse team picked up a win on the road on Sunday afternoon in a thrilling 16-15 victory over Westminster College.

The Saints and Titans battled to an 8-8 deadlock at the end of the first half, which set up a battle across the final two quarters. Marymount's offense came alive in the third quarter, which made the difference at the final whistle.

MU netted five goals during the frame, which pushed the Blue and White ahead, 13-12. Gavin Tylorson did the heavy lifting for the Saints during the barrage with three goals. Clark Akers and Paul Vey each added one marker to round out the barrage.

The Saints and the Titans traded blows during the final quarter as each side netted three goals. Hunter Ralston, Charlie Wittich, and Sebastian Radovic all scored to keep the Saints in the lead. Brandon Hall tallied five saves during the final period to fend off Westminster's comeback attempt.

Taylorson, Akers, and Vey paced the Saints' offense with five points apiece. Taylorson finished the game with a season-high-tying five goals, while Akers tallied three goals and two assists. Vey finished with one goal and four assists. Vey's assist total set a new career-high for the sophomore.

Akers' outing made history for the Saints, as the Springfield, Virginia native, became the all-time leading goal-scorer in Marymount history. His three markers brought his career tally to 129, which pushed him past the former record of 127, held by Brandon Sallee. Akers point total currently sits at 188, just five shy of taking over the record for career points.

In the midfield, Joseph Sciortino dominated possession with 12 ground balls. The sophomore also went a solid 15-for-19 at the faceoff-X. In goal, Hall finished with nine saves to earn the win.

Marymount remains on the road for its next contest on Wednesday, March 23, when the Saints battle Hood College at 6:00 p.m.
