Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University men's lacrosse team dropped a tight 18-13 decision against St. Mary's College (Md.) on Wednesday evening.
The Saints started the contest on the right foot, as they poured in seven goals across the first quarter. Troy Tangolics and Charlie Wittich each scored a pair, while Paul Vey, Chris Bochilo, and Clark Akers rounded out the barrage.
Despite the four-goal edge, the Seahawks responded with a high-scoring frame of their own with a nine-goal second quarter. Brandon Hall made three saves in goal for the Blue and White during the frame, but the visitor's relentless attack put St. Mary's up 12-7 at the half.
Marymount struck three times in the third quarter and opened the scoring in the final period. Noah Hill buried an attempt with 11:34 on the clock in the fourth quarter to pull the Saints back within three with the score at 14-11. St. Mary's tacked on a pair of goals, but MU answered with back-to-back goals from Joseph Sciortino and Akers to make it 16-13. Despite the Saints' best efforts, the Seahawks added two more goals to seal the contest.
Wittich paced the Saints on the scoresheet with five points on three goals and two assists. Tangolics (2g-1a), Akers (3g), Ralston (1g-2a), Bochilo (1g-2a), and Hill (1g-1a) rounded out the Blue and White's multi-point performers. On the defensive side of the ball, Evan Motta hounded the Seahawks with a team-high three caused turnovers. Jack Mattimore added a pair of caused turnovers, while Sciortino tallied a team-best five ground balls. In goal, Hall played the full 60 minutes and tallied 18 saves.
The Saints head west for their next contest on Sunday, March 6 when they challenge Whittier College in the Golden State at 4:00 p.m. EST.
