Box Score 2 THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Marymount University men's volleyball team split its final two matches of the Cal-Lu-Fornia Classic. The Saints fell short Friday night against Aurora University 3-1 but came out on top against Baldwin-Wallace University in a three set match.
Game One
Marymount played four sets Friday night in a close match-up with the Aurora University Spartans. The Saints took the first set, 25-21, after they limited the Spartans to a .000 attack percentage. The Spartans managed five kills while the Saints racked up fourteen.
The second set got away from the Saints as the Spartans recovered with 13 kills. Aurora's presence at the net flustered the Saitns during the frame, as MU floored eight kills.
MU continued to battle in the third set with a .300 atack percentage, but Aurora held on for a 25-22 win. The fourth set matched the script of the third frame as the back-and-forth continued. Despite the Saints' best efforts, they were unable to find a way past the Spartans.
Raymond Tarasi led the match in kills with thirteen. Ervin Harrell supported the effort with nine kills. Sava Topich ended the tilt with 39 assists and two service aces. Luke Pogue and Mason Moore each registered a solo block, while Moore added three block assists to his total.
Game Two
The Saints wrapped up their time in the Golden State with a three-set win against the Baldwin-Wallace Yellow Jackets. Despite a slow offensive start in the first frame, the Saints Saints floored 11 kills en route to a comfortable 25-20 decision.
The Saints built on the momentum as they won the next two sets by larger margins. The Blue and White minimized errors which resulted in a .440 attack percentage in the second and a .481 in the third.
Miles Olson and Kerekes were two-way forces for the Saints. Olson finished with seven kills, nine digs, one service ace, and two block assists. Kerekes tallied six kills, two assists, two service aces and three blocks. Caden Kelty led the Saints in kills with nine. Grayson Andrews was key for the Saints offense with 30 assists.
The Saints return to the Converse Family Fieldhouse on Friday, March 18th, when they host Rutgers-Newark University in conference play. The match is set to start at 7:00 pm.
