Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Marymount University men's lacrosse team battled for the full 60 minutes on Saturday afternoon, but the Saints were unable to overcome a fourth quarter push from Shenandoah University.
Marymount and Shenandoah went back-and-forth throughout the tilt, but the Hornets goalkeeper flustered the Saints' attack with 18 saves. Marymount peppered Shenandoah with 52 shots, 30 of which made their way on target. MU's offense was fueled by a strong performance in the midfield, as the Saints finished with the edge in ground balls, 40-34, and won 23 out of 30 faceoffs.
After Shenandoah took an early lead, the Saints battled back with three consecutive goals in the second quarter to tie the score at 5-5. Charlie Wittich started the barrage, while Chris Bochilo and Mason Vandawater knotted the score with 9:45 on the clock. MU had the final say in the first half as Gavin Taylorson buried a pass from Paul Vey to make it a 7-7 game at the break.
The third quarter saw more of the same, as MU once again tied the game at 10-10 off of a goal from Sebastian Radovic. Despite the Saints best efforts, Shenandoah found its stride in the fourth quarter. The Hornets netted five goals during the frame to edge the Blue and White, 15-12.
Clark Akers, Paul Vey, Gavin Taylorson, and Charlie Wittich led the Saints with two goals apiece. Wittich finished with five points after he tallied three assists. Joseph Sciortino led the Saints in ground balls with six. Jake Schwarzmann and Jack Mattimore both caused two turnovers. Brandon Hall started in goal for the Saints and registered nine saves while Anothony Olivo stepped in during the fourth quarter and added four saves.
The Saints remain at Long Bridge Park for their next contest on Wednesday, March 2, when they face off against St. Mary's at 4:00 pm.
