Box Score OWING MILLS, Md. - The No. 11-ranked Marymount University men's volleyball team faced off against Stevenson University for the second time this season and walked away with a four-set victory on the Mustangs home court on Wednesday evening.
The home side won the opening set, 25-22, behind a .438 attack percentage. MU knotted the score five times throughout the set, Stevenson's hot-hitting kept the Saints at bay.
Despite the Mustangs' strong start, the Saints offense erupted in the second frame to tie the match at 1-1. Marymount registered a .700 attack percentage with 14 kills and zero attack errors. On the opposite side of the net, the Saints' defense flustered the Mustangs to a sub .100 attack percentage as they rolled to a 25-12 win.
With the Mustangs on their heels, the Blue and White ran away with the third set, with an identical 25-12 score. While the Saints dominated the set, a late 5-0 run sealed the frame for the Saints. Jason Perkins provided two kills and one block during the barrage to give Marymount a two-sets-to-one edge.
The fourth set was a closer affair as Stevenson looked to extend the match, but the Saints held on to take the set, 25-22. After plenty of back-and-forth throughout the set, Marymount pulled ahead by one, at 21-20, on the heels of a 3-0 run highlighted by a kill from Raymond Tarasi. Stevenson managed to tie the score at 21-21, but Sava Topich and Perkins combined for a pair of blocks and Tarasi floored one final kill to seal the set and match.
Three Saints finished with double-digit kills, led by Tarasi, who totaled with 13 on a .385 attack percentage. The senior finished with a double-double with a match-best 14 digs. Perkins tallied 11 kills, while Ervin Harrell added 10. For Harrell, it marked the fourth-straight match the senior finished with double figure kills. Perkins and Topich each finished with seven blocks, while Topich added a match-high 30 assists.
The Saints return home to face the Eastern Mennonite University Royals at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 18th, inside of Converse Family Fieldhouse.
