Box Score 2 MAHWAH, NJ. - The No. 8 Marymount University men's volleyball team dominated the court in a tri-match against Purchase College and Ramapo College on Saturday with a pair of three-set wins.
Match One: Marymount vs. Purchase College
The Saints flew past the Panthers in a quick three sets with an attack percentage of .468. On the opposite side of the net, the Saints flustered Purchase, which resulted in a paltry -.036 attack percentage. MU ended the match with a dominant 35-14 advantage in kills and a 24-19 edge in digs.
Caden Kelty led the match in kills with nine and blocks with three. Sophomore John Quinlan set a career high with four service aces, which contributed to MU's season-best 11 aces. Freshman Nicholas Blose tallied the first two blocks of his career in the match and added seven kills. Blose's classmate, Jermey Wimmer, finished the match with six kills and three digs with a stellar .600 attack percentage. Luke Pogue chipped in with five kills and two blocks.
Match Two: Marymount vs. Ramapo College
The Saints wrapped up the day with a straight-sets sweep of Ramapo College.. The Saints outpaced the Roadrunners in kills, 43-40. The Saints also outpaced the Roadrunners in efficiency with a .341 attack percentage, compared to a .239 clip from the home side. MU's defense stood out against Ramapo, as the Saints registered 41 digs.
The first frame set the back-and-forth tone for the match. MU took a 5-4 lead early via a kill from Hayden Kerekes. MU never relented its lead, but the Roadrunners continued to keep the set close. A 3-0 run pushed the Saints ahead for good at 20-15, with kills from Miles Olson, Raymond Tarasi, and Jason Perkins. A kill from junior Sava Topich wrapped up the opening set for the Saints.
The Roadrunners fought back in the second set, and took a 22-19 lead late in the frame. The Saints were unfazed, however, and rattled off six consecutive points to seal the set. MU rallied behind the service of Ervin Harrell, who kickstarted the run with a service ace. From there Topich set up Olson and Tarasi for kills that sealed the set.
The third set followed a similar script to the second, as the Roadrunners took an early lead. With the score tied at 14-14, two kills by Harrel flustered Ramapo,which resulted in back-to-back attack errors. While the Roadrunners snuck back ahead at 21-20, three consecutive kills from Perkins and a pair of kills from Harrell closed out the match.
Ervin Harrel led the Saints' offense with 12 kills and a stellar .635 attack percentage. Tarasi finished the match with 10 kills, while Perkins tallied nine. Sava Topich orchestrated MU's offense for the Saints victory with 38 assists and three kills. Meanwhile, Hayden Kerekes and Will Wright led the Saints' defense with three blocks and 11 digs, respectively.
The Saints are back in action on Wednesday, February 16th, when they battle Stevenson University on the Mustangs' home court at 6:00 p.m.
