Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. - The No. 8 Marymount University men's volleyball team knocked out another match in a quick three sets Thursday night against the Cal Lutheran University Kingsmen.
The Saints put up a season best .500 attack percentage to best the Kingsmen, who posted a .333 attack percentage. The Saints offense was led by Jason Perkins who tallied 12 kills and zero errors to achieve a .706 attack average. Raymond Tarasi and Ervin Harrell backed up Perkins with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Sava Topich posted an impressive .857 attack percentage with 6 kills and 35 assists. Michael Collins led the court in service aces with three.
The first set was close with both teams fighting for each point. The Kingsmen outpaced the Saints in kills but the Saints also let the Kingsmen lead in errors. The Saints offense demonstrated a control of the set registering no attack errors and a .500 attack percentage. The Saints took the first set 25 to 19.
The second set had an identical outcome in score and was close in play to the score of 8-8. The Saints slowly built their lead until three consecutive kills by Mason Moore, Miles Olson and Tarasi and a joint block effort by Tarasi and Moore built Marymount's lead to 19-12. Cal Lutheran attempted to catch the Saints but was unable to as Tarasi registered another kill to bring the set to a close at 25-19.
The third set started on a different note when the Kingsmen took the lead early on and maintained a one or two point advantage until the score was tied at 10. Even then, the Saints found themselves tied again at 17. The Saints regained their rhythm as Collins stepped up to serve, with Perkins and Raymond registering services and Collins a service ace the Saints took the lead. A solo block by Topich helped the Saints maintain their lead and they closed the set with a kill by Miles.
The Saints return to the court on Saturday, February 12th, to compete against Ramapo College and Purchase College in a tri-match at Ramapo at 3pm and 5pm, respectively.
