No. 14 Men's Volleyball Races Past Lancaster Bible and Hiram

LANCASTER, Pa. -- The No. 14 Marymount University men's volleyball team remained perfect on Saturday afternoon in a dominant pair of wins over Lancaster Bible College and Hiram College with a pair of three-set victories. 

Match One: Marymount vs. Lancaster Bible 

The Saints flew past the Chargers in a quick three sets with a season-high attack percentage of .414. On the opposite side of the net, the Saints flustered Lancaster Bible's offense which resulted in a .117 attack percentage. 

The first set was the closest of the match but the Saints commanded the first half with a seven-point run after the Chargers scored the first point of the game. The Saints maintained their lead on the Chargers, but Lancaster Bible put up a fight as Marymount attempted to finish off the final two points of the sets.  While the Chargers made up seven points, a kill by junior Sava Topich closed the set with a three-point lead.

The Saints safely secured the second set with nine kills with a .412 attack percentage. Four service aces and four kills by senior Raymond Tarasi helped push the Saints ahead. MU's defense shined during the game as well, as Topich and his classmate Hayden Kerekes posted three block assists apiece. Senior Jason Perkins added a solo block to help Marymount seal a 25-11 win.

The third set was a closer affair, but the Saints came out on top with a final score of 25-20. Marymount's offense continued to fire on all cylinders with a .480 attack percentage, which carried the Blue and white to victory.

Tarasi led the game with 15 kills and 5 service aces. Perkins led the game in blocks with six, while Chris Manganiello posted a match-high eight digs. Topich led the tilt in assists with 28.

 

Match Two: Marymount vs. Hiram

While Saints fought for every point against the Terriers, they outpaced their foe in kills, 42-23. Marymount's kill total came in an efficient manner with a .385 attack percentage. Senior Miles Olson and sophomore Mason Moore led the game with 10 kills, which went down as a career-high for Moore. Junior Grayson Andrews and Moore led the team in service aces with two each. 

While the Terriers got the first point of the match, the Saints didn't let Hiram seize the momentum, as the set was tied 17 times. With the score tied at 24-24, MU took the final two points of the set, as a kill from Ervin Harrell sealed the win for MU. 

The second set was controlled by the Saints as they used an early 8-0 run to seize control of the set. MU's early success resulted in a 10-point win. Eleven kills by the Saints and seven errors by the Terriers allowed the Saints to roll. Andrews stood out in the frame with three kills and seven assists in addition to his service aces.

The Terriers came out swinging in the third set with four-straight points. Marymount eventually regained its footing with a six-point run to bring the score to 21-17 after four kills by the Saints and two errors on the part of the Terriers. MU held uts lead from there and closed out the frame with a two-point lead.

The Saints return to the court on Wednesday, February 2nd, to defend their unblemished record at home against Stevenson University at 7:30 p.m.
