Box Score DOVER, Del. – The Marymount University women's lacrosse team clinched the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the upcoming Atlantic East Conference tournament with a 20-9 victory over Wesley College to close out the regular season on Wednesday evening.
The game was highlighted by senior Madison Davis' 100th career point. The Pottstown, Pa., native tallied three points on one goal and two assists to hit the total, marking the 18th player in Marymount history to reach the mark.
The team was paced by juniors Emily Peters and Sarah Agrillo through the game, as the pair combined for 16 points. Peters put away a career-high seven goals, while Agrillo tallied six goals and a career-high three assists. Agrillo's nine points also mark a career-best.
It took just over one minute of play for Peters to give Marymount its first lead, but Wesley came back to tie the score just six seconds later.
Agrillo notched her first score to regain the lead, as the Saints outscored the Wolverines 13-3 through the remainder of the first half. MU used two separate four-goal runs to pull away in the period.
Senior Eliana Cassel and junior Taylor Young, each, added two goals in the half, as well. Young put away the final tally of the half to push the lead to double-digits, 14-4.
At the break, the Saints held a 20-13 advantage in shots and were successful on both free-position attempts. The Wolverines led 12-6 in draw controls.
Wesley cut back into the Saints' lead with two goals to open the second half, but the Saints halted any inkling of a comeback with a 5-1 run. Peters and Young, each, tallied two goals in the spurt.
Agrillo netted her final two scores of the game in the half, as well, securing the win.
Young finished with four goals in the contest, tying a career-best.
Junior Mariel Russ earned the win in goal, playing all 60 minutes and making six saves.
The Saints will now look towards the Atlantic East tournament for their next game. Following the first-round bye, MU will host a semifinal contest at Long Bridge Park on Wednesday, April 28; the Saints opponent is to be determined by the first-round contests.
