Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. --The Marymount University men's volleyball team fended off a stiff challenge from the visiting Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday night, as the Saints earned a 3-2 win in a five-set thriller inside of Converse Family Fieldhouse.
After a slow start, MU's offense picked up in a big way as the match rolled on. A quartet of players finished with double-figure kills for the Saints, led by Ervin Harrell and Hayden Kerekes, who posted 14 apiece. Harrell added 10 digs for his second double-double of the campaign. Miles Olson tallied 12 kills and 11 digs to register a double-double, while Jason Perkins floored 10 kills and a team-best five block assists.
Sophomore Grayson Andrews took the reins of the offense and did not disappoint, as the Colonial Heights, Virginia native, posted a match-high 45 assists.
The visitors came out firing in the opening set with a .385 attack percentage and 14 kills. That barrage allowed Randolph Macon to build a 1-0 lead after the Yellow Jackets took the opening frame, 25-20.
MU bounced back in the second set with a renewed presence at the net. Marymount registered four blocks during the set and forced the Yellow Jackets to hit a paltry .000 throughout the stanza. After trading points early in the set, a 4-0 run punctuated by an ace from Olson put Marymount in the lead for good at 11-7. Perkins combined with Andrews and brought the set to a close at 25-18.
Marymount was unable to seize the momentum, however, as Randolph Macon stole the third set, 25-19, as the Saints' offense struggled to find a rhythm. The Blue and White flipped the script in the fourth set with 13 kills and a .333 attack percentage. On the other side of the net, Randolph-Macon mustered just seven kills and a -.037 clip as a team.
