No. 10 Juniata Trips Up Men's Volleyball In Final Matches of Regular Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Marymount University men's volleyball wrapped up the regular season on the road on Saturday afternoon with a pair of matches against No. 10-nationally ranked Juniata College. Despite their best efforts, the Saints were unable to find a way past the Eagles, as Juniata earned a pair of Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) victories.

Match One

Marymount went blow-for-blow with the home side throughout the first match, but ultimately could not keep pace with Juniata's attack. The Eagles hit at a solid .307 clip and were buoyed at the net by 14 blocks. That presence at the net was too much for the Saints, who hit .205 as a team, to overcome.

When MU found success against the Eagles staunch defense, it came via Ervin Harrell and Raymond Tarasi. Tarasi floored 14 kills and hit a team-best .333, while Harrell added 13 kills and five digs. Grayson Andrews totaled 30 assists as the Blue and White's set-up man. It marked the sixth time this season that the sophomore hit the 30-assist plateau.

The Saints pushed Juniata to the brink in the opening set with a match-best 15 kills. Midway through the frame, Hayden Kerekes and Harrell combined for a block that put MU up, 15-11. The two sides traded points from there and a kill from Tarasi gave MU a match-point chance at 25-24. Despite the advantage, Juniata came back and registered the final two points of the set to earn a 28-26 victory.

Match Two

The Eagles' offense continued its hot streak in the second match of the afternoon. Robert Bowling led the charge for Juniata with 14 kills. Juniata's defense stifled MU's attack with 30 digs and nine blocks.

MU's offense flowed through Andrews, who posted 23 assists. Miles Olson led the Saints with five kills, while Kerekes and Tarasi added four kills apiece.

The match followed a similar script as the first, as Marymount hung tough with Juniata throughout the opening set. The teams consistently traded points early and MU snuck ahead at 13-12. The Eagles grabbed a two-point lead back and maintained it as Marymount fought to keep pace. Kerekes knotted the score at 21-21 after a service ace, but it was too little, too late as Juniata took the frame.

The Saints will return to action in the CVC tournament after they finished second in their pod. Stay tuned to www.marymountsaints.com to view the most up-to-date schedules once the conference releases its postseason seeding.
